today i woke up at the crack of dawn and tried to get some lakers tickets for me and my buddy eric. i know those lakers are having a great season so i planned on paying a little more then average, but what i didnt plan on was $100 for nose bleed seats! can you believe that? i wanna see kobe get down, but a hundred bucks is crazy right? just for fun, i went to the clippers website and checked on ticket prices. did you know you can see clippers home games for $15. yup, thats right. im not sure if jawn agione is a lakers fan, or if hes a basketball fan at all, but i will say that if you want to root for a team it would be in your best interest financially to back a sports team that sucks ass. you can watch the lakers play on television for free and fuel you hunger for live b-ball action seeing the clippers get smoked, all the while youve got an extra $85 bucks in your pocket.

ok, here are a few more pieces of advice to get you through life a lttle easier. sit up straight, floss, and be sure to read below to get some 411 on jawn agione. we also have some new work from him for your viewing pleasure. oh, and if anyone happens to have some courtside seats they arent using, you can email eric@funartists.com.    a big thanks to jawn for taking the time to share with fartminusf.com

Whats your name, age and where do you reside?
Jawn Agione. 25 at the end of March. Live in Chatsworth, work out of Eagle Rock, CA.

A funny story about your childhood?
My childhood is pretty foggy, but my friend insists that I pushed him up against the lockers when we were in jr. high because he wouldn’t give me any of his “Chicken in a Biskit” crackers…but I don’t recall.

Favorite art district in Los Angeles and why?
They’re all the same to me. Good shows pop-up everywhere.

What is penting?
Just a way to describe my use of pens and markers. I’m a sucker for cheesy wordplay.

How would you describe your art?
Compositions of color and character. I started off as a design major, so when I switched to “fine-art,“ a lot of the technique of arranging images and blocks of type transferred over. Oh yeah, and pretty crappy.

Who are the Peas and Carrots?
Peas and Carrots began as a way of reflecting back on my “wannabe gangsta” days when I was a kid. They help me laugh at trends, both past and present. However, I’m exploring the idea that the term “gangsta” is more of a mentality rather than a result of a social situation. Not really a new idea, but one that seems to desire a little bit of investigation on my part.

When are you most productive?
When I tell myself, “stop being a lazy sack of shit.”

What inspires you?
Other artists. Usually when I go to a good show, I leave pretty discouraged. But that all goes away and eventually turns into motivation.

Artists you’re into right now?

Really enjoying Anthony Lister and Taylor McKimens’ work. Went to a show at the Hammer over the summer and fell in love with the art of Rebecca Morales. Also, check out Folkert De Jong, an artist from the Netherlands. He’s got some really crude sculptures that are fuckin sickk.

Best exhibition you’ve seen in the past 3 months?
Just went to Travis Millard and Mel Kadel’s show at Richard Heller. Travis’ work always brings a smile to my face and Mel simply killed it. I’m really diggin her work cause she explores compositions through character, pattern, and color, and that’s what I’m experimenting with in the Peas and Carrots series.

What are you listening to right now?
Snot. R.I.P.

Upcoming projects of things you are stoked on for the year?
Going to launch my company Illust Industries this year. Other than that just going to be doing a lot of drawing. My friend hooked up a studio space for me to do my work, so I’m getting a lot more work done. Also planning on bringing back a lot of my old characters in some new work, so hopefully you guys dig. Website coming soon…just gotta tell myself “stop being a lazy sack of shit.”
