there are some words I’d like to say to sum up some of Theresa’s art: women, animals, guns, boobs, sport bikes, wildness, and boobs. Now tell me, doesn’t that sound fucking awesome? A woman painting awesome things that a woman wouldn’t normally like. Prepare to immense yourself in genius.
words: Sean Talkington

please tell us your name?
Theresa Sapergia
where did you grow up?
Prince George, British Columbia, Canada
how did that shape you as an artist?
kinda round shaped
you seem to create rather large work. have you always drawn big?
I like big and I like teensie. It’s the in-between size that eludes me. I think the real issue is that I draw things that are big in life and consequently the paper must be even larger to accommodate them.
do you do smaller stuff too?
yes. I like tiny things. Dear things. Pocket-size paintings so that I can keep them with me. Pack them around like. I painted many little paintings of men with shaved heads and loads of the pug.
what influences you?
oh boy. Hmm. My friends really. My friends are seriously amazing artists. I’m pretty pumped up about living in a small city in Canada too. It’s beautiful here and we’ve got the CBC (CBC.ca) and local talk radio always reminds me how clever Canadians are.
favorite animal?
my pug dog: Marty. My Chihuahua: CC.

something most people dont know about you?
I was once thrown in jail and my cell caught on fire.
average trip to the grocery store?
$200 Canadian which is kinda like saying $200 US.

describe your work area?
deserted at present. It’s my basement. I’ve opened my own tattoo shop and there’s a studio in the back. It’s deserted too at the moment, save for an 8-foot fiberglass eagle.
walk us through an average day?
right now it’s all tattoo, tattoo, tattoo. My most recent drawings involve a unicorn coming out of a rose and a dragon being slain by a knight.

favorite toys as a child?
a giant, stuffed bear actually. Hm.
music in your head?
“You’re so vain….you probably think this song is about you…you’re so vain…”
the last time you got into trouble?
see above comment about the cell and the fire…
some of your favorite artists?
Alice Neel, Rosa Bonheur, William Wegman, William Bouguereau,

boneclones.com, sapergia.com
any favorite youtube links?
“I’M OLD GREG!”

January 2009 Montreal. Summer 2009 here in my hometown.

leaks. Does everyone say that? It seemed funny just now…
